Envisioning 2022: What’s on your Vision Board?

As each new year begins, I’ve always liked to create a vision board to start the year with a visual representation of my goals and desires for what’s to come. Although I normally get together with a bunch of friends and make a day of it, due to the pandemic parameters I worked on this year’s vision board at home with my husband.

I grabbed magazines, scissors, tape and glue, pens, stickers and a bottle of wine in preparation for this crafty activity. I also grabbed a happiness journal. To get in the right head space, and using my Vision Board Planner and journal to guide me, I try to jot down goals prior to flipping through magazines photos and articles. The categories I aimed to find 2022 goals for are:

  • Career

  • Financial

  • Relationships

  • Social

  • Family

  • Health

  • Travel

  • Joy

  • Words to live by

I selected about one or two tangible goals within each category. Some of these goals may be easy to find in magazines while others I had to find a picture or phrase and just make it work! Not looking for perfection - I just wanted to make sure that when I looked at my vision board in 5 months, 6 months, 12 months, I was able to get a quick understanding and reminder of the goals I set out to achieve from each category.

As we flipped through the pages sipping on Zinfandel, we tried to envision how a symbol or phrase connects to our goals - a cup of water in a martini glass to remind myself of drinking water anyway possible; the word ‘different’ from a headlining article to remind me that it is ok to be unique; a picture of a fancy resort to symbolize vacation mode. Then we just cut those things out and taped or glued them wherever our hearts desired on our respective boards. Placement wasn’t formal or fancy; I just put them where I felt like it!

When I looked at my final board I felt accomplished. I created something:

  1. I can hang up to remind me every day of my goals

  2. That reminds me to keep my head up and keep pushing

  3. To remember not give up on the day or the ‘season’ I’m in

My vision board is there for me when I need a pick me up or a gentle reminder!

I’d like to try to conquer, accomplish, achieve, and/or simply do the items I’ve placed on my vision board. Some may happen this year, and some may not. And that’s just fine.
